We are looking for more Volunteers – can you help?
What do we do?
Christians Together Calderdale is probably best known for the Food and Support Drop In, Winter Homeless Shelter and Love Calderdale, but we do so much more
So how can you help?
Most of our projects are run by volunteers and we need more people who can help us with a variety of roles. If you are interested in what we do and can spare a couple of hours a week or even help on an occasional basis, we would love to hear from you. We currently need volunteers to help us with the following:
Food and Support Drop In
Thursday 9.30 – 11.30 to help with the sorting and splitting of food
Saturday 9.30am – 12.00 When we give our food parcels. There are a number of different roles from registering new guests to packing bags and befriending.
Family Gathering: Saturday mornings 9.30 – 12.00 at the same time as the Drop In for families who need to receive a food parcel. We use a separate space so that the children can have a fun doing crafts or playing games whilst they wait. We need people who are prepared to lead or help at these sessions. Parents stay with their children.
Banqueting Table: We need more volunteers to help with preparing and serving meals and washing up / cleaning afterwards (Tues, Thurs & Fri), flexible from mid-morning to mid-afternoon.
Food Collections: A number of local supermarkets kindly donate food that would otherwise go to waste and we need a few people who are willing to collect food for us as part of a rota. (Own car and insurance for volunteer driving required)
Gathering Place Befrienders: We are currently recruiting a team of people who can make clients feel welcome whilst they are waiting for appointments during the week with the Second Chances team (Mon, Tues, Thurs & Fri 9.30 – 2.30).
Mentors: Many of the people we help are in crisis, and we often find that once their immediate needs have been met, they like to keep in contact with us for ongoing support in smaller ways. We are looking for people who have experience to act as mentors for a few hours a month providing a listening ear for support and advice and encourage towards independence. Please note that this role will be subject to a formal interview process
Saturday Gathering: After our church service on a Saturday evening we provide a meal and we are looking for people or teams to go on our rota to cook, serve and clean up afterwards.
Living Places is a house for women who need support ahead of moving into independent accommodation we would be interested to hear from people who have experience in supporting women who have come from difficult places.
Winter Shelter: Our winter homeless shelter runs from Jan – Mar. If you are interested in volunteering as a Befriender, Evening Team Leader, Morning Support, Evening or Morning Cook, Kitchen Assistant or as an Overnight Volunteer, please get in touch.
Receiving donations: We receive lots of donations of food and other items, which need to be stored and organised. We need help with this on an ongoing basis, but especially during September and October following harvest and in December for Christmas donations.
Professional support: Do you have any professional expertise that you think might be of use to us? (This could be anything from IT to Facilities Management, Social Care to Administration). If so, please get in touch, it may be that we don’t need help on a regular basis but having someone we can call on occasionally or to ask for advice would make a huge difference to us.
Please note that many of our roles are subject to a satisfactory DBS check.
